This comment prompted this whole post. What sane person Just click that link. It's a short comment.
I don't know the answer to that. I do know there are people with far worse stories than mine. I've seen the scars on other people and asked.
I don't really think the question is what sane person hits a child with fists, feet or other objects, or burns them on the stove or with cigarettes, or cuts them or sexually abuses them or on and on and on.
I think the real question is why does anyone do anything to hurt or cause a child harm, in any way?
Even better question is why do we accept it when we see it happening? And yes, ignoring it is the exact same as accepting it or condoning it.
This is a subject that really pisses me off. Why would most of the people in the world rather ignore a child being hurt than get involved?
Another thing that pisses me off is when adults try to rationalize brutality against children as being the child's fault. Don't they understand that it's their own failing?
Aren't they smart enough to teach a child. Aren't they smart enough to control a child? Aren't they smart enough to teach a child right from wrong? All of this is why I wrote about new parents should have to take a parenting class. I'm not going to look up the url for that one. It was a while back.
Obviously child abusers have something wrong with them. Lack of self control for damn sure.
Even worse is it's a universal thing. It happens in every country, every race and ethnic makeup and in every social strata from high class to low class and rich or poor and everything in between.
Most ignore it, some tolerate it and some even condone it yet everyone says in public, how wrong it is. Bunch of lying, two faced sons of bitches as far as I'm concerned. Including churches and politicians.
When you raise a child thru the use of force all you are teaching them is that the strongest is right. That it's okay to hurt people smaller than you. That it's okay to hit people who can't defend themselves. That it's okay to yell at people smaller than you are or weaker than you are. That losing control of yourself is just fine. That as long as you are bigger or stronger you can do anything you want.
Two freaking million years of evolution or whatever, 10 thousand or how many ever years it is, if you believe in the bible and we still haven't learned one damn thing about not hurting children.
We still haven't learned that how you raise children is the kind of adults they become. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't want to hear any of the "Were so enlightened crap from anyone either" because the sad truth is we aren't that freaking enlightened at all.
Proof you say? Screw you, watch your tv, listen to the news, read your papers. If we're so enlightened then we have to be the most backwards, most ignorant race in the freaking universe because I don't see enlightened at all.
It's still happening and still most of you don't do a damn thing about it. That ain't enlightened. That's just plain stupid.
Have you ever told someone in Wal-Mart or whatever that if you see them hit their child again you are going to call the police? Have you ever protected a child from an adult or their own parents? I've done that many times and will do it again and again.
Now I'm 60 freaking years old, I've got spinal problems, I've got COPD so bad I can barely make it up a flight of stairs, I weigh a whole whopping 112 pounds and if I can do it you sure as hell can.
WHY THE HELL DON"T YOU?

Do people who believe in God get depressed more or less
It's a holiday so time for some pseudo frivolity. At the very least, my version of what's amusing and my sense of humor, such as it is. I'd be one hell of a radio talk show host.
So I heard on TV today that parents teach their kids all kinds of things that aren't true and have them believe in all kinds of things that aren't true.
They tell you wonderful things about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Elves, 4 leaf clovers and, gasp, God and other assorted foolishness. They actually make you believe that they believe.
Furthermore Christmas and the Easter Bunny are PAGAN symbols from way, way back in the day. Sorry if I offend any Christians. Well, no, I'm not. If you don't know enough about your religion to know these things aren't you a lot like the children you teach about Santa, Easter Bunny, etc.
Now how much do you think your kid is going to trust what you say after they discover that you have lied about every, and I mean every, belief that was important to them. Do you remember how absolutely crushed your kids were when they found out the truth?
So now they have no Santa, no Easter Bunny, no tooth fairy, etc. BTW, when they figure out one doesn't exist the soon figure out you lied about the others too. Lol, how to win friends and get your kids to trust you. Lie to them from the day they are born.
So if none of the things you have taught them to believe in really exist how can they believe that God exists either? Heh, God should be the least believable because it's put across with the least conviction.
Hmmm, I guess this means if you are a Christian you are better about lying to your kids about fantasies than you are telling the truth about what you believe to be real. Still, it does make me wonder why kids still believe.
What do I believe in? ME. Just me and a thing called cosmic consciousness as put forth by the Rosicrucian's a few thousand years ago and sold as 'The Secret' now days. It's even talked about in the Bible. No, I don't believe in a God.
Ready for a laugh? I am an ordained minister. Oh, sorry, you probably don't see the humor in it. Lol, you wouldn't understand why I started one of my corporations on April 1, either. Whatever.
Do I absolutely believe in the rule of my church. Certainly do, it's why I joined. The major thing is 'Do the right thing'. I believe in that anyway so why not. That's the absolute truth too. What I found amusing on their website(ULC) was the fact that under the 'Do the right thing' was a legal disclaimer about how you shouldn't do anything illegal.
See what happens when lawyers get involved. Things go from simple to very complicated. It's also why we are denied one of our rights granted by the constitution. If you really want to know look up the history of 'jury nullification'. However that's a total different rant.
Anyway, everyone pretty much knows what the right thing is. Of course, unless you are a sociopath, you do, along with a few other rare exceptions, like insane. Now how could illegal and right not be the same thing. Uh. Duh. Was it legal to hide Jewish people from the Nazi's? Just because something is a law doesn't make it right. Sheesh. That should just flat out go without expectation.
So the legal disclaimer at the bottom of the page. BTW, I'm not advocating that you break any laws. Lol, just because I violate a few for the betterment of some doesn't mean you should run right out and do it. Breaking the law will get you in trouble, no matter what the reason.
Lol, that's why we have laws. Just ask any woman who has an order of protection out against a ex, or soon to be ex, who beat and battered her. Our laws work just fine at all times. So remember, don't break the law, just do the right thing.
Now I haven't bothered to look up the question I had at the top because I don't really care about the answer. I suspect they get depressed less often than people who are agnostic or atheist. Agnostics and atheists have no one to blame for their problems but themselves. Thats a bummer for them but in almost all religions you get to blame your God for all of your problems.
Heh, I read somewhere that if religion didn't exist man would create it just to have someone else to blame. ROTF, just ask L Ron Hubbard.
The Christian version of the bible say God is part of all of us and if that's true then why is there so much disrespect of other people religious choices. All of those people have the same God in them, don't they?
If you are a religious person and believe in the bible I guess my question is how can you believe in a God you disrespect so much? If you truly believe your religion you would always do the right thing and religion wouldn't even come into it. Nor race, nor region nor any freaking thing at all.
So many, way to many of you, lack tolerance of those who don't believe the same things you do or come from the same place you do. Yet you believe the bible to be the truth yet you can not tolerate your god being in anyone who doesn't believe as you do. Yes, I find this hilarious. It's about as funny as Santa and the Easter Bunny.
So it wasn't funny. Was kinda depressing tho.
Yes, you are the one who teaches your children.
Perhaps you should be more careful with what you teach them.
Try doing the 'right thing' once in your life.

A great day today and I feel really good.
I talked with T this morning and she brought the baby out because I hadn't seen her for a few days. Baby T is now 16 months and can almost say my name. It's so cool.
T was in back and I was watching the baby when her husband K came in. He played with baby for a minute and then asked me to watch her as he had to go back to work. Then her mom asked me a bit later if I'd mind keeping her busy while she got her bookkeeping done.
Now this is harder than it sounds because baby T is very spoiled and has quite the temper and tends to scream and cry a lot when she doesn't get her way. I spoil her too so it's not like it's something I didn't know. Her mom and I have discussed it and we both agreed it was getting out of hand and I've only known her for 5-6 weeks and she's worse.
When baby T gets mad at me she goes and stands by the door to the private quarters and stands there and screams. Usually her mom will come and let her in but she knows it's not a good thing because the baby just gets mom to pick her up so she'll be quiet. When she gets mad at mom she'll do the same thing to me.
I'm watching her and moms working and baby T decides she wants to throw dry cheerios all over so I took them away and naturally she had a fit. Mom didn't come to her aid and I let her scream and cry for a bit before I went and got her. She came back and sat by me and we talked for a bit. I have no clue what she was saying but I understood the tone. Every guy understands that tone in a female. She was letting me know she wasn't happy.
Then she decided she wanted to go outside. I picked her up so she could see better but she kept making a motion with her hand that means she wants something. She might not be able to make me understand her words yet but she does make me understand somethings. Her mom was back behind the counter so I told her baby and I were going out to see what her dad was doing.
I put her on my shoulders and she started giggling and off we went to explore the outside world together. She loved it and we went and found dad and he held he for a minute and then back on my shoulders. We walked around the whole area like that and everyone talked to her and she would babble back. She loved it and I thought it was the greatest thing. Then she got heavy so we went back inside. We'd been out for about 30 minutes.
She had a tantrum when I put her down inside and kept trying to force the door open. It was funny because she was really mad and frustrated because she couldn't get out. I tryed to distract her with toys and she threw them all on the floor. Finally got her to sit on the couch quietly and then she wanted the toys and wanted me to get them. I wouldn't so she had another bout. I laughed at her and told her I dealt with a woman 6 foot tall who threw tantrums too so she wasn't impressing me at 30 inches or so of fury.
When she got quiet again I put her back on my shoulders and we went back out for another walk. This time she got to say where she wanted to go and would indicate it to me with her hand motion. So we went and she was perfectly content, sitting on my shoulders quietly talking and ooing amd ahing over everything.
She'd indicate she wanted to go see someone and I'd walk over and she'd talk at them for a minute and then indicate she wanted to go somewhere else. She was fascinated by the butterflies and we followed them for a bit. Then she saw a pine cone so I stooped and picked it up and gave it to her. She examined it for a few minutes and was telling me about it. Then she dropped it and I had to pick it up. Not easy for me with her on my shoulders and it happened twice more so I got tired and we went back in.
Mom was working but about done so I sat her on the counter and she was playing with some paper and a pencil when she decided she wanted to play with the calculator mom was using and I wouldn't let her. She got mad and threw everything on the floor and I just let her get mad. She got over it and indicated she wanted the paper and pen from the floor so I put her down to get it. Oops, another fit.
She then went over by the door and started screaming and crying and m0m and I were laughing. After we had both ignored her she soon quit and came over and wrapped her little arms around me and held on. Naturally I melted and picked her up. Then she wanted the stuff on the floor again so we went thru an instant replay.
When she came back and hugged me again I told her we had to pick up her toys and I helped her with it then picked her back up and put her on the counter. Mom got her work done and as baby T was tired decided to give her some juice and put her down for a nap. I left feeling better than I have in a long time.
The sense of wonder she has and the fascination she has with everything new is just great. I really enjoy watching her learn new things and get excited over new things. It's really cool because everything is new. Her little tantrums are so funny and predictable. She definitely has a mind of her own. She's just the coolest little girl I've ever been around.
I have the feeling that baby T is going to make me regret that I never had children. I suppose I could still have a child but that kinda means that I have to be in a relationship first and I'm not nor is there anyone I'm interested in. I have the feeling that I missed out on a lot but it was my choice not to have a child.
My childhood made me not want to have kids. It took this long for me to get over it and decide I could handle it. It's not to late but it's getting there. I can't say that 60 is really a great time to think about having kids. Lol, of course my mind doesn't think it's 60 but my body knows it is.
Spending that quality time with baby T today made me feel really great and I think we'll go for a walk again tomorrow. I sure didn't have time to feel depressed playing with and being responsible for her. Best day for me this year.
